Grateful
Dear Friend,
I am sitting in Kimbilio Center (Refuge) watching one of our caregivers tenderly hold within her lap a lady who is walking in the valley of the shadow of death. Like a dark night, the darkness that surrounds her seems unbearable. The pain, fear and loneliness that have accompanied her journey has been great. But this moment feels sacred. It reminds me of a quote by John Wyatt which says: “suffering is not a problem that demands a solution; it is not a question that demands an answer; it is a mystery that demands a presence.” Within this work, it often feels like there is so little to offer; and yet, as Mother Teresa would say, small things given with great love are a priceless offering. With tears in my eyes, I am witnessing the mercy of God as it is being poured out upon a broken heart.
Thankfulness rises within me as I consider our God who is familiar with suffering and is closer than any of us know. The beauty of His presence within this hospice home truly is a glimmer of light and hope in the midst of terrible darkness. He is guiding our feet into the way of peace. Because He is our Comforter, He is enabling us to comfort others who are hurting. I want to share with you a few stories from our house of rest. Thank you for being a part of this journey. Your love, prayers, and support are life-giving and make this ministry possible. May God’s blessings be upon you.
With love, Juli McGowan
