Kibet
In 2004, a man named Kibet was lying under the shade of a tree. He was young and dying of AIDS. At that time, stigma and fear were everywhere. There was no HIV treatment readily available to those living in rural villages. An unexpected gift was found in a one room clinic, a mere ten miles away from Kipkaren, in the form of HIV testing and treatment. This discovery immediately gave birth to Tumaini na Afya (meaning Hope & Health), a HIV/AIDS community mobilization program that has impacted thousands of lives. Nearly seven years later, Kibet is still alive and was strong enough to be a part of the construction team for our Kimbilio Hospice.
