As the photograph depicts, there is a stark contrast that exists between these two little girls. They are both guests of Kimbilio Hospice with stories that aren’t dissimilar from one another—it’s just that the gap which separated their suffering was a matter of timing.

It is a parent’s role to celebrate and memorialize their child’s first steps; but who is to take pleasure in this significant life moment, as well as a baby’s first word or brilliant emerging personality, when there is no longer a living mom or dad? Who is responsible to not only sustain an orphan but to delight in the life that they have been given?
