Spokenya Team Day 11

Thursday, 9:15pm here in Kenya.  The evening is quieting down in the guesthouse, however outside the crickets are joyfully making their songs. Our friendly rooster is quiet so far this evening.  As mentioned in an earlier blog by my teammate, the rainy season has started some.

Spokenya Team Day 10

Waking up on a Kenyan morning there is so much to hear: roosters competing to crow the loudest, wonderful and sometimes strange bird songs, and the howling of stray dogs.  Our team woke up Wednesday morning to what Kenyans call the rainy season.

Spokenya Team Day 9

The morning began with a brisk walk to Kimbilio Hospice.  The sky was a crisp blue scattered with fluffy white clouds.  A conversation of whether it would rain that day was the topic at hand.

Spokenya Team Day 3

JAMBO! It is currently 0600 here, the birds are waking up, the non-stop rooster crowing is joining them. I hear the crickets yet and awaiting the sunrise.  I hear the voices of the neighbors here at the Shiloh Guesthouse starting their day of early morning chores.  We have been so blessed with everything that is going on here, each day filled to the brim with interacting with the local community, helping at Kimbilio Hospice, making home visits, gathering at the end of the day at the guesthouse with our hosts for wonderful dinners of local foods and a time of fellowship.

APU PT Team Day 14

We are nearly half way done with this week–how time flies! We are still focused on what needs to be done here and how we can continue to serve the patients and staff here at Kimbilio. We continue to be amazed at God’s beautiful creation around us on our walks to and from work and on our weekend outings. But something David Tarus has told us on more than one occasion has stuck with us–Kenya is a beautiful place, but the real beauty is the people. It’s easy to be mesmerized by a sunset or thunderstorm, but it’s even easier to get lost in the warm eyes of a patient whose pain has finally stopped or in the laughter of a child.
