Christian Assembly Team Update #3

Today my assigned task was to work in the farms with farmers Joseph and Julius.  In the past three years, the farmers at Living Room have turned acres of land into a vast supply of vegetables to feed their patients and staff.  I worked the day clearing the dirt with a handmade hoe to prepare for a spinach-like vegetable called black nightshade.  It was muscle building, blister forming work, but it was God’s work.  Working with the famers, I quickly learned that they were interested in talking about two things.

Christian Assembly Team Update #2

Life…

(by Todd Pickerill)

I wanted to share my day with you, it started with me meeting Julius and Joseph.  They are both farmers that work for Living Room.  We started our day planting sweet potatoes; they would hoe the rows and I would come behind them planting sweet potato cuttings.  These men are hard workers.  I was out in the field by myself, when I was approached by Nobert.  Nobert is a 10 year old boy that looks five years old.

Christian Assembly Team Update #1

In the early hours of the morning, we gathered together at the Living Room for our first day of service.  We joined the hospice staff and sang songs of worship in Swahili.  The hospice staffers represent the great people from the community who have given their lives to serve the needs of their extended “family.”  These needs are those of men and women struggling with the pain of cancer attacking their bodies, adults and children who cannot walk from paralysis, and the families in the community hurting for their loved ones.

50 Reasons to Run

In honor of World Hospice Day and to raise awareness of Living Room’s Kimbilio Hospice, on October 13, we will be hosting the 1st Annual Kimbilio Hospice Marathon, which will begin and end on the Living Room grounds. The word “Kimbilio” in Kiswahili means “refuge” or more literally, “a place to run to.” With this in mind, the theme of this year’s marathon is “A Place to Run to… Worth Running for.” As we gear up for this event, we will be presenting stories of Living Room guests who have helped to shape the hospice, and we believe they are worth running for. One story will be presented each day excluding Sundays on www.livingroominternational.org and Living Room’s Facebook page for the fifty days leading up to the marathon. We encourage you to follow and share these stories.
