50 Reasons to Run, Day 10: Rose

Rose Nelima

2009 – 2011
Guest at Living Room: September 2 – 9, 2011

There are times when precious and vulnerable lives arrive to Living Room whose bodies are so broken that we do not know how best to pray. In such cases, we earnestly yearn for and ask for a miracle, that God would bring healing and that we would see life return to them. And yet we also recognize the agony of their suffering and simply pray that God in His sovereignty would do the most merciful thing. Such was the case with Rose. At two years of age, Rose arrived at Kimbilio Hospice with her desperate mother, HIV-positive and weighing a mere five pounds, an emaciated shell of a body. We immediately began feeding her every two hours and continued to do so around the clock for the seven days she was with us. We were amazed when, even in this broken state, we witnessed that Rose could sit up. One week after she arrived to Kimbilio, Rose passed away. Our Clinical Director, Rachel adamantly insisted that Rose be wrapped with dignity and honor. While our hearts ached and mourned the loss of this young life, Sweet Rose reminded us again of the need for and purpose of the Living Room; regardless of whether life returns or it fades from the brokenness of this world, love still matters.

Rose is worth running for
